Mid-19th century mosque restored in Chechnya

The village of Braguna in the Gudermes region saw the opening ceremony of a restored mosque. Chechen Mufti Sultan Mirzayev, head of the Gudermes region Vakha Nasukhanov, Cadi of the region Sultan Mediyev and local inhabitants participated in the opening.


According to the press-service of the president and the government of Chechnya, the mosque is one of the oldest in the republic. It was built in 1850. In 1952 it was destroyed and rebuilt in 1992.


The mosque can hold up to 600 people. Its reconstruction was ordered by Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov. On July 23rd it had the first prayers and a reading of the Movlid.
