Kazakh president says NATO’s withdrawal from Afghanistan is not catastrophe

Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev said at the 11th Eurasian Media Forum in Astana today that withdrawal of NATO forces from Afghanistan next year will not become a catastrophe for Central Asia.

The civil war in Afghanistan has been ongoing since 1979. With account of the low education level of its population, people should be encouraged to get back to labour. People predicting new conflicts in Central Asia, according to Nazarbayev, are driven by inertness of the past, an archaic approach. The president calls it a dynamically developing sub-region of Eurasia and the world, where Kazakhstan and other states proved the ability continue independent development.
