Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu said in Baku today that Azerbaijan will chair the committee for social protection and labour, Trend reports.
The global economic recession causes unemployment of over 9% a year in the last six years. 14% of the population of OIC states is unemployed. 20% of young people cannot find a job.
Azerbaijani Minister for Labour and Social Protection Fizuli Alekperov said that such meetings were necessary to study experience of other states, improvement of efficiency of using labour resources, productivity, reduction of tensions at the labour market. He noted that Azerbaijan was a link between Europe and Asia.
Ministers for labour and social protection of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bahrain, Brunei, Turkey, Kuwait and other states attended the session. They will conclude the conference on Friday and sign a framework document with a plan for the upcoming years.
The next ministerial conference will be held in Jakarta (Indonesia) in 2015.
