European court says Tymoshenko's arrest was illegal

Former Ukrainian prime minister Yuliya Tymoshenko has been arrested illegally, the European Court of Human Rights said today. The court thus satisfied Tymoshenko's complaint filed in 2011.

Tymoshenko has been sentenced to 7 years in prison for abuse of power. The Ukrainian opposition and the European Union believe that the trial had a political undertone since Tymoshenko is the major opponent of President Viktor Yanukovich.
