Saakashvili says Georgia must boost defense potential

Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili has urged the Georgian Defense Ministry to prepare for the "total defense" of the country, Interfax reports.


In a speech at a meeting with leading defense and military officials, Saakashvili also urged the country to develop civil defense.


He said that the army has mainly been preparing for peacekeeping operations. The president pointed out the importance of improving military education and expressed discontent with teaching in military academies.
