Hundreds of thousands of people rallied across Russia on May 1st in order to mark Labour Day.
Seven rallies were held in Moscow, the biggest of which was a march of labour unions in Moscow, co-organized by the ruling United Russia party, which was attended by some 70 thousand people, RIA Novosti cites the city police as saying.
In the North Caucasus republic of Chechnya some 120 thousand people rallied in the capital of Grozny.
Several opposition groups, including the Communist Party, also rallied on Wednesday, RIA Novosti reports.
Reviving a communist tradition, Russian President Vladimir Putin issued five Hero of Labour awards in St. Petersburg on May 1st, the news agency informs.
