Russia insists investigation be conducted into use of chemical weapons in Syria

Russia insists that Syria’s request to investigate the use of chemical weapons near Aleppo be satisfied, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said."We insist that the specific request by the Government of Syria for the UN to investigate the possible use of chemical weapons in March near Aleppo be met," Lavrov is quoted by ITAR-TASS."Chemical weapons or chemical substances may have been used in March near Aleppo. The Syrian government requested the U.N. to investigate this case. The U.N. Secretary General said such an investigation was possible. But already two days later he said access to all facilities and to all persons was necessary," the Russian minister said."This is wrong and reminds us of the UN resolution on Iraq," Lavrov stressed. As previously reported by Vestnik Kavkaza, in March the Syrian government announced the use of chemical weapons in Aleppo by the opposition, which killed 25 people, and appealed to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to set up an independent commission to investigate the incident.
