On Sunday Orthodox Christians around the globe celebrate Easter, the major Christian holiday.
Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Orthodox Christians and all those celebrating Easter in a special statement, RIA Novosti reports.
“Easter gives joy and hope to millions of people, inspires good deeds and noble aspirations. It turns them to the original spiritual values that play a special role in Russia’s history and feed the national culture,” the news agency cites President Putin as saying in his message.
The Russian president also praised the role of the Russian Orthodox Church in maintaining civil peace in Russia and developing inter-faith and inter-ethnic dialogue.
