The Syrian authorities believe that Israeli air strikes aim to support the rebels. The strikes were launched in order to support 'terrorist forces against which the government is fighting', RIA Novosti cites the official statement of the Syrian authorities.

World media reported earlier that Israel launched several air strikes on Syria this weekend.

The operation reportedly aimed to prevent arms deliveries to Hezbollah.
