Lavrov and Brahimi discuss escalation of situation in Syria

Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and the UN and Arab League special envoy to Syria Lakhdar Brahimi discussed today on the phone the establishment of effective international mediation in order to help resolve the Syrian crisis, a report of the Information Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry says."The task of establishing effective international mediation, including through the UN mechanisms, in order to facilitate the settlement of the Syrian crisis through immediate implementation by all parties of the Geneva agreements of June 30, 2012 was discussed," the Russian Foreign Ministry says.As previously reported by Vestnik Kavkaza, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said today that the situation around Syria has escalated, and Moscow is particularly concerned about reports of recent Israeli air strikes on targets in the suburbs of Damascus.
