Damascus welcomes reconciliation between Moscow and Washington in Syrian settlement

The Syrian foreign ministry and Arab League welcomed on Thursday a U.S.-Russian proposal to seek a negotiated end to the ongoing civil war in Syria.Moscow and Washington agreed this week to try to bring President Bashar al-Assad's government and his opponents to the negotiating table, according to Reuters.“Syria welcomes the U.S.-Russian rapprochement... It is confident that the Russian position, which is based on the principles of the U.N. Charter and international law, will not change,” the Syrian Foreign ministry said.Lavrov and Kerry met on May 7 and said they would try to organize a conference on Syria before the end of this month.
