Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad escorted his advisor Esfandiyar Rakhim Mashai as a candidate for president yesterday, violating the rules of candidate registry. Ahmadinejad may get 74 whips or six months of jail, The Telegraph reports.
686 people plan to run for president in Iran. Their candidatures will be studied by the Council of Guardians of the Constitution. The list of candidates for the elections of June 14 will be published on May 22-23.
