Georgia welcomes EU's attention

Georgia welcomes the European Union's attention to the country's political processes, Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili says.

The head of the Georgian government was reacting to the recent statement by EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton and European commissioner for enlargement Štefan Füle.

The EU officials have called upon Georgia to secure free trials for political opponents of the incumbent prime minister and abstain from political prosecutions.

"We welcome such attention. We believe it will help us to secure a free trial," Prime Minister Ivanishvili said.
