The bill on gubernatorial elections in Dagestan was passed today in the second and final reading by the National Assembly majority, thus the deputees accepted the abolition of direct elections and the appointment of the president of the republic by the parliament, the representative of the National Assembly, Khizri Shihsaidov, reports.
76 MPs voted for the bill, and only five against. From now on, the head of Dagestan will be elected by the parliament from the three candidates presented by the President of Russia, in 20 days from the day of the candidates' presentation to the parliament.
