The Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Thorbjorn Jagland, spoke at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov about the admission of the Council of European Observers to Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
Jagland announced the news after his meeting with the First Deputy of the Foreign Minister of Georgia, David Zalkaliani, the Georgian Foreign Ministry reported today.
"We talk about a monitoring mission. Until now we have not had such a possibility, but we are working on the problem. I raised this question at the meeting with the Russian President and Minister of Foreign Affairs. I really hope that in the future we will be able to report that a monitoring mission has been allowed into the conflict zone," Jagland said.
