The Kyrgyz SWAT forces had a crackdown of protesters at the Kumtor gold mine in the Jeti-Oguz District in the Issyk-Kul Region, KyrTAG reports.
The protests started on May 27 and blocked the road. Protesters demand nationalization of the gold mine, currently owned by Centerra Gold. They expect to see the prime minister before 4.00 pm on May 31.
Staff of the Kumtor Operating Company requested the government to announce the state of emergency in the region. Protesters attacked a power plant and caused a power cut.
Prime Minister Jantoro Satybaldiyev had a special governmental session in Bishkek last night and ordered re-launch of the power plant.
