Kshishtof Lizek, a Polish co-rappoteur of the European Parliament for Georgia, has requested Georgian Minister for Justice Tea Tsulukiani to let him meet Vano Merabishvili, Georgian ex-Prime Minister and Secretary General of the United National Movement.
Lizek arrived in Georgia on Monday morning. He will stay in Georgia until June 4 and meet local executives, prime minister, legislators. The delegation of the European Parliament includes 8 MPs and 6 members of the secretariat.
Merabishvili and Zurab Chiaberashvili, ex-Minister for Labour, Healthcare and Social Protection, were detained in Kakheti on May 21 for opening fake workplaces for members of the United National Movement within the framework of the state employment program in 2012. They are charged with acquiring a luxurious country house on the Black Sea coast and excess of authority in a crackdown of opposition on May 26, 2011.
