Regional powers should prepare for further tensions in Central Asia, CIS executive committee says

The regional powers should be prepared for a possible escalation of tensions in Central Asia, the chairman of the executive committee of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Sergey Lebedev, says.

The remarks were made today at a meeting of the heads of the governments of the CIS member-states held in Minsk.

"The situation in the world is becoming more and more tense and the escalation of vehement conflicts is indeed disturbing. Today there are actual threats to the Central Asian nations," Lebedev said.
