Iran plans to continue examination of three US citizens accused of espionage

The trial of three US citizens accused of espionage on Iranian territory will continue, stated the head of the National Security and Foreign Relations Commission of the Iranian parliament, radio Europe1 reports. Previously, the US president demanded that the detained Americans be released at once, RBC informs.

According to Iranian officials, this situation has nothing to do with the kidnapping of Iranian scientist Shakhram Amiri, which the Iranian side alleges was committed by American intelligence in Saudi Arabia.

Three American citizens were arrested on the 31st of July 2009 near the Iran - Iraq border and accused of espionage. The US authorities claim that they were tourists and crossed the border by mistake. However, officials of the Islamic Republic are of a different opinion.
