The United Nations will consider Russia's suggestion to sent its peacekeeping contingent to the Golan Heights in place of the departing Austrian forces.
The UN Department for Peacekeeping Operations will discuss this idea, the UK's envoy to the UN Marc Grant says.
He said that the initiative can be implemented, even though it contradicts the Israeli-Syrian agreement, according to which the permanent members of the UN cannot serve as peacekeepers in the region.
According to Grant, an exception can be made if both Israel and Syria support such an idea.
