Taksim won't be new Tahrir, Turkish minister says

Turkish minister for European affairs Egemen Bağış says the continuing popular protests in Turkey will not lead to serious political transformation in his country.

"The western media made a mistake. They believed that the developments on Taksem Square would become similar to those on Tahrir, but Taksim will never be a new Tahrir," the minister says, referring to the Egyptian revolution that started on Cairo's Tahrir square  and overthrew Hosni Mubarak.

Bağış also notes that there are certain powers that will be pleased to destabilize the situation and Turkey, as they don't want the country to become a superpower.
