PACE co-reporters promise the second report on Azerbaijan in two years

The co-reporters of PACE’s Monitoring Committee, Pedro Agramunt and JosephDebono Grech, have held a press conference today in Baku on the results of their visit to Azerbaijan and say that they will prepare the second report on Azerbaijan in two years.

"The government of Azerbaijan is open to all of our recommendations," Agramunt told a press conference. The co-reporters called on the government to ensure full freedom of speech in the country and reach a compromise on the issue of allocation of places for demonstrations in the capital.

During their trip, Agramunt and Grech met with President Ilham Aliyev, the Heads of the Interior Ministry and the Ministry of Justice, the Attorney General, the Head of the Supreme Court, and representatives of opposition parties and civil society.

The previous report was adopted in January of this year by 197 affirmative votes against 13 negative votes.
