Iran starts presidential polls

The 11th presidential polls in Iran started at 8.00 am. 66,000 polling stations have opened for 50.5 million voters to choose between Saeed Jalili, Mohsen Rezaee, Hassan Rouhani, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Mohammad Gharazi and Ali Akbar Velayati.

Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was the first one to vote., but he kept his vote a secret even for his family. He emphasized that he was indifferent to recognition of the elections by the US.

Ex-candidate for president Mohammad Reza Aref, Ayatollah Shirazi Makarem, member of the Expediency Discernment Council Ali Akbar Nategh Nouri, ex-President and Ayatollah Ali Akbar Salehi Rafsanjani and candidate for president Mohammad Gharazi have voted.

421 journalists from 39 countries, including Azerbaijan (Trend), Germany (RTL, ARD, ZDS), Austria (ORF), Italy (STS, RAI, TG-2), Russia (Russia Today, REN TV, NTV), are monitoring the process.
