Germany calls for urgent meeting of UN Security Council over Syria

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has called for an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council in order to discuss the Syrian crisis. The head of the German cabinet voiced this initiative during an interview with the BBC.

She explained that the necessity of the meeting had become evident after the United States announced that it would provide the Syrian rebel forces with arms.

"The issue should be discussed by the Security Council. We believe we will manage to find a possible solution," she said.
