The Kyrgyz parliamentary committee for international affairs has approved denouncement of the agreement on the Manas Airfield in Bishkek with the US, ITAR-TASS reports.
The airfield will no longer be needed in the light of US withdrawal from Afghanistan. The bill on withdrawal from the Manas base will be passed before the summer of 2014.
The agreement on lease of the Manas Airfield was signed in December 2001 for the Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. Kyrgyzstan announced plans to close the base in Manas in 2009 and transformed it into a transit center. Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev aid that there should be no military in a civil airport. He proposed formation of a major logistical center instead.
