Putin welcomes amnesty for jailed businessmen

Russian President Vladimir Putin said today that he approves the idea of an amnesty for businessmen jailed for economic crimes. The remarks were made at the St. Petersburg Economic Forum.

The president urged lawmakers to draft a corresponding law. 

President Putin previously criticized the initiative, saying that the project is not ready to be fulfilled. 

As he has changed his stance on the issue, Putin believes now that an amnesty would improve the economic situation in the country.
