Georgian ex-prime minister to get new charges

 

Georgian ex-Prime Minister Vano Merabishvili will get new charges in two days, Prosecutor General Archil Kbilashvili said.

The official is charged with bribery of voters, waste and illegal acquisition of funds, abuse of authority and excess of power during a crackdown of opposition in 2011.

Sandro Girgvliani and his friend Levan Bukhaidze visited the Sharden-bar Café at Tbilisi center on January 28, 2006. Data Akhalaya, head of the department for constitutional security, Oleg Melnikov, his deputy, Vasily Sanodze, head of the general inspection of the Interior Ministry, Guram Donadze, head of the PR service of the Interior Ministry, Tako Salakaia, wife of the interior minister, Tamara Mausyradze, a friend of Girgvliani, were at the cade. Girgvliani was found dead in Okrokana. Four ex-functionaries of the department for constitutional security were sentenced and released on amnesty.
