Staff of Tbilisi Mayor’s Office detained

 

Tbilisi Deputy Mayor David Alavidze, head of the Tbilisi Development Fund David Avaliani, head of the Tbilisi Purchase Service Alexi Tabuashvili and deputy head of the Krtsanisi District Dmitri Chkheidze have been detained for illegal acquisition and wasting $29.6 million and may get 7-11 years of prison.

Tbilisi Mayor Gigi Ugulava said that their detention was illegal. He reminded that 23 officials of his office had been detained on Thursday morning and released during the arrival of NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen. As soon as the NATO chief left, the arrests started again. Ugulava noted that the majority of positions at the office were occupied by the United National Movement.
