The Russian and Iranian navies are planning to hold joint exercises in the Caspian Sea in the second half of this year, a Russian military commander said Friday.
Nikolai Yakubovsky, deputy commander of Russia’s Caspian Flotilla, made the announcement after a meeting with the commander of a group of Iranian guided-missile boats that were visiting the port of Astrakhan, RIA reports.
Lieutenant Commander of the Iranian Navy Admiral Siyavash Jarreh announced on Wednesday that two missile-launching warships which have been manufactured by the young Iranian experts and joined the Navy's fleet in 2003 and 2006 were for the first time dispatched to the Russian port of Astrakhan in the form of a flotilla, FARS news agency reports.
