Iran voices desire to rebuild relations with Azerbaijan

A senior Iranian lawmaker Alaeddin Boroujerdi has underscored the importance of consolidating Iran-Azerbaijan relations and called for an "overhaul" of bilateral ties between the two neighboring nations.

"Relations with Azerbaijan should be overhauled and the existing problems between the two countries must be resolved," Trend quotes the Chairman of Iran's Majlis Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy Alaeddin Boroujerdi at a Sunday meeting with Iran's Ambassador to Baku Mohsen Pak-Ayeen.

"There are numerous commonalities between Iran and Azerbaijan and (Iranian) public opinion expects good and stable ties with this country," he added.

Boroujerdi also called for the expansion of bilateral parliamentary ties with Azerbaijan and the holding of meetings between the two countries' parliamentary friendship groups and foreign policy committees.

The Iranian ambassador, for his part, elaborated on the growing economic and commercial ties between the two nations.
