Egyptian President Mohammad Morsi was toppled by the military yesterday and replaced by Adli Mansur, head of the Constitutional Court. Morsi was detained and taken to the Defense Ministry together with about 300 members of the Muslim Brotherhood, including its General Guide Mohammed Badie and head of the Freedom and Justice Party Saad El-Karatni, RIA Novosti reports.
US President Barack Obama urged the military to give control over the country to the civil government. Part of US diplomats evacuated from Egypt.
Saudi Arabian King Abdullah congratulated Mansur on his appointment.
Mikhail Margelov, head of the committee for international affairs of the Federation Council of Russia, urged politicians to abstain from hasty conclusions. He noted that the main goal of the new government was to prevent violence.
