Head of Russian State University for Humanities hopes for no redundancies during Academy of Sciences' reform

The head of the Russian State University for the Humanities, Efim Pivovar, hopes that no one will be made redundant during the coming reform of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

The reform was approved by the State Duma in the second hearing on Friday. 344 lawmakers voted in favour. The Communist Party condemned the bill and called for a vote of no confidence in the country's government.

According to the bill, the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences and the Russian Academy of Agricultural Sciences will be united into one body. A special federal agency will also be established to govern the new academy's property.

Efim Pivovar told VK that he supports the actual idea of academic reform. According to him such reform is necessary, but certain schemes can be debated. He also says that the most important thing is that no one should be made redundant and that the academic structures not be demolished.
