Mehman Aliyev, director of the Turan information agency, has commented on the political and economic program of Azerbaijani opposition Rustam Ibragimbekov may use during his campaign. The National Council of Democratic Forces held the third session in Baku last week.
Aliyev, head of the PR committee of the national council, emphasized that it was not a completely opposition organization or a group of parties struggling for power. The expert noted that it was more of a public council promoting a wide range of social layers.
Commenting on the program of the National Council of Democratic Forces, Mehman Aliyev focused on the political aspect. He said that the president will only have two years of power, enough to organized new parliamentary elections in 2014, ahead of the elections scheduled in 2015. The main goal of the national council would be amendments to the Constitution to switch to the parliamentary system.
Regarding economic aspects, the Turan director said that it would have the biggest problems, including liberalization of economy, combating monopolies, corruption, development of the non-petroleum sector.
