UNSC fails to choose new sanctions against Iran

Experts of the UNSC discussed launch of Shahab-1 and Shahab-3 in 2012 yesterday and violation of resolution 1929 (2010), RIA Novosti reports.

Australian representative Gary Quilnan said that some experts did not see any violations of the resolution. Some experts said that it would be best to abstain from any other sanctions, because new President Hassan Rouhani had promised to make the nuclear program more clear. China emphasized that sanctions would only escalate confrontation. The US noted the importance of diplomacy, adding that only sanctions would convince Iran.
