Armenian foreign minister to visit Iran - 1

Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian will visit Iran in the near future, Armenian deputy foreign minister Arman Kirakosyan said, Trend reports, citing ISNA.

He noted that Nalbandian will discuss the mediatorship of Iran in settling the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

The conflict started in 1988 between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Nagorno-Karabakh and 7 surrounding territories – 20% of Azerbaijani territory – are occupied by Armenian armed forces. In May 1994 they reached a cease-fire agreement, ever since which the OSCE Minsk Group, under the chairmanship of Russia, France and the USA, has been organizing negotiations on the issue.

The 4 resolutions approved by the UN Security Council on freeing the Nagorno-Karabakh region have not been fulfilled by Armenia yet.
