The Russian Federal Service for Oversight of Consumer Protection and Welfare said today that it will change the monitoring system for Georgian products as a response to laboratories of the US Defense Department operating in Georgia to develop chemical weapons, the federal agency’s website reports.
According to the federal service, the Georgian authorities have no control over research of infections in the laboratories.
Amiran Gamkrelidze, director of the National Center for Disease Control of Georgia, denied rumours about negative impact of the laboratories. He said that Russian experts were invited and checked the laboratories, concluding the visit with positive results. The facilities carried out no secret research, he added.
