Today, during an extraordinary session, the People's Assembly of Dagestan has approved the candidacy of former Finance Minister Abdusamadov Gamidov as Acting Prime Minister of the Republic, the position became vacant after the resignation of the government last Monday. Vestnik Kavkaza asked the Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Nationalities Gadzhimet Safaraliev, and the executive director of Foundation for ethno-political research "Continent" Magomed Omarov to comment on the issue.
Gadzhimet Safaraliev believes it was the right decision. "He is a manager, used to be a minister, has worked for many years, has proved himself well. Generally speaking, it is a bright future for a Finance Minister. The level of the Minister of Finance, Minister for Economy, these are people who know and see the whole economy, and understand the processes that take place, especially those related to finance. In this regard, the appointment of an experienced person with managerial experience, I think this is a right decision," Safaraliev said.
Mohammed Omarov does not share this view. "I, to be honest, do not know him very well, but, in my opinion, this is not the best solution. It seems to me that as Minister of Finance he had received enough criticism from all directions. There is hardly any logic to it. Although from the president's perspective, maybe his position suits the team. I just do not know him personally very well. But I am familiar with some criticism, which had been addressed to the Minister of Finance, so it seems to me a little bit illogical. I think this is a hasty decision by the acting head of Dagestan," Omarov said.
