The 1025th anniversary of the Christianization of Kievan Rus is being marked today in the Ukrainian capital. The event is attended by Russian Patriarch Kirill, Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Ukrainian counterpart Viktor Yanukovich.
The patriarch of Jerusalem, the patriarch of Alexandria and Georgian Patriarch Iliya II are also taking part in the event.
The celebrations started with a solemn divine service led by the Russian patriarch.
The christianization of Kievan Rus dates back to 988, when Prince Vladimir was baptised together with his fellow-warriors and the population of Kiev.
