Medvedev signs decree on increasing transport security

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has already signed a decree on boosting security on transport throughout Russia, reports ITAR-TASS.

The move comes two days after at least 39 people were killed by two bombs on the Moscow metro.

The program primarily concerns metro systems and other forms of public transport and must be ratified by the government in the next four
months.

The authorities will have to outfit the most vulnerable transport facilities with equipment designed to improve safety standards by
March 31, 2011.

Medvedev also said an advanced security system should be introduced in the Moscow metro by January 1, 2014.

The Russian leader also said that transport companies, local authorities and everyone linked to the transport system should shoulder equal responsibility in the event of emergencies.
