Free trade area among Turkic states is a project for the future, experts say

Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Turkic states Ramil Gasanov says the establishment of a free trade area will be discussed during the summit of the Turkic countries' presidents scheduled for August 15-16.

Vestnik Kavkaza asked three experts from Azerbaijan, Turkey and Kazakhstan to comment on the issue.

Member of the Azerbaijani Parliament and political analyst Rasim Musambekov believes that the idea is fruitful, even though any certain agreement probably won't be reached soon. According to the expert, the idea of a free trade area is a project for the future.

Associate Professor at Ankara's University of Economics and Technologies Togrul Ismail underlines that the idea is not a new one, but agrees that the project won't be implemented in the near future. "The idea is good, but it's premature to discuss any certain steps," he says.

Kazakh expert Andrey Chebotaryov also seems sceptical about the idea of a free trade area among the Turkic states. He noted, however ,that it will still be discussed by the parties involved.
