Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili reinstated Tengiz Gunava, who has been pardoned by him as the governor of Samegrelo - Zemo Svaneti. He introduced the governor who has returned to his post to the province representatives on Thursday.
Saakashvili said he made the decision based on the fact that Gunava "was convicted unjustly."
"This man was sent to prison unjustly, due to an accounting blunder. Prior to that, they planted weapons and drugs on him, but after this attempt had failed, and no one was punished, Gunava still got arrested," Trend quotes the president.
Saakashvili said he trusts the governor, adding that the latter will be doing his work with dignity as previously.
Gunava was pardoned by the president on Monday. He was convicted of embezzlement of fuel worth 50,000 laris.
