Iran will not be affected by sanctions or Putin’s cancelled visit – Satanovsky

Russian President Vladimir Putin has cancelled the visit to Iran. The US has passed new sanctions against the Islamic Republic. Yevgeny Satanovsky, President of the Institute for the Near East, noted that the sanctions passed by the US Congress and in need of President Barack Obama’s signature will not affect Iran.

The expert reminded that Iran had overcome all sanctions and they had given it extra endurance instead. Regarding the cancelled visit, Satanovsky does not consider it catastrophic. Russian and Iranian interests are based on strategic interests, not just any meetings. Iran is in greater need of such meetings than Russia. The meeting can be postponed from August to September or October.
Satanovsky believes that the Western mass media give a distorted image of Iran’s failures. He predicts that Al Jazeera and Alarabiya will make skeptical comments. Arabian monarchs are unhappy with both Russia’s position on Syria and the activities of Iran, the expert concludes.
