Iran’s Rouhani holds first meetings with foreign leaders

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani met Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, who emphasized the progress in energy and transportation cooperation. Rouhani met Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev and discussed realization of the Janaozen-Kiziltay-Bereket-Etrek-Gorgan Railway project.

Azerbaijani Speaker of Parliament Ogtay Asadov thanked Rouhani for reception and sent congratulations from Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. They discussed settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Rouhani met Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan and agreed to improve cooperation.

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu had a closed-door meeting with Rouhani. The new president also met Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, Iraqi Vice President Khodair al-Khozaei, Algerian Speaker of Parliament Abdelkader bin Saleh, Prime Minister of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Khalid al-Sabah, Nicaraguan Vice President Omar Halleslevens and Syrian Prime Minister Wael al-Halqi.
