Georgia is ready to restore relations with Russia, but without any preconditions

The restoration of diplomatic relations with Russia should take place without preconditions, the Minister of Justice of Georgia Thea Tsulukiani said, commenting on the statement by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev that Moscow is ready to restore diplomatic relations with Tbilisi if the Georgian side recognizes the fact of what happened in August 2008.

As previously reported by Vestnik Kavkaza, Medvedev said that until recently he hoped that Georgia would stop the escalation of the conflict, and expressed the view that there will be no return to the old, "cold" relations between Russia and Georgia.

"If the negotiating table is not open, we will not be able to thoroughly discuss any issue, including the issue of territorial integrity. Therefore, diplomatic relations should be restored without any preconditions or replacement promises," RIA Novosti quotes Tsulukiani.
