Armenia to decide whether to join Eurasian Union

Vyacheslav Kovalenko, Russian Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Georgia (2006-2008) and Armenia (2009-2013), has commented on Armenia’s choice of the EU or the Eurasian Union as the course of its further development. The ex-ambassador said that the association agreement of Armenia and the EU was a large document for trade-economic relations and excluded points on visa-free regime.

The document coordinates the EU position in foreign policy and border security.

At the same time, Armenia was offered to join the Customs Union, Eurasian Union and other Eurasian projects. The EU criticized the projects Armenia could join, Kovalenko reminded.

The official added that the document will be signed in Vilnius in November. It would be a step towards Western states, but the question around the Eurasian Union was still topical.
