Germany's openly gay Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle is uncertain whether he will attend the 2014 Sochi Olympic Games amid the continuing anti-gay campaign sponsored by the Russian authorities, Ekho Moskvy reports.
The news agency asked the minister's office whether he will attend the event or not.
The German foreign ministry responded that the Federal Government is deeply concerned about the situation surrounding LGBT rights in Russia and is outraged at the recently adopted legislation prohibiting the "promotion of homosexuality."
The ministry said however that no decision concerning Westerwelle's participation in the event has been made so far.
"The minister's agenda for 2014 has not been drafted yet," Germany's foreign ministry wrote to Ekho Moskvy.
