German Ambassador to Russia Ulrich Brandenburg has ruled out the idea of boycotting the 2014 Sochi Olympic Games, Grani.ru reports on Tuesday.
"The majority of people in Germany and other countries do not support the idea of boycotting the Olympics. Such a boycott is not being discussed. However, we are worried about the situation surrounding homophobia in Russia," the ambassador is quoted as saying.
The idea of a boycott has been suggested recently by several prominent public figures, including comedian and author Stephen Fry, due to the anti-gay campaign launched by the Russian authorities.
