Georgia ready for military cooperation with Russia

Georgian Defense Minister Irakly Alasania said at the John Hopkins University after talks with US Defense Secretary Chuck Hagelthat Georgia was ready for military cooperation with Russia, Georgia Online reports.

He said that Russia and Georgia were cooperating in counter-terrorism operations and security of the Sochi 2014 Olympic Games. He expressed hope that Russia would change attitude towards Georgian territorial problems. Georgia remains devoted to joining the NATO.


Georgia sees no risks of conflict escalation in Abkhazia and South Ossetia. It will continue efforts for reintegration of the breakaway republics.


Alasania discussed cooperation in the Afghanistan peace mission. He noted that the US will continue training Georgian soldiers and helping with infrastructure and logistics.


The minister said that Georgia will attend the NATO talks in 2014. 75% of the population approved plans to join the NATO and the EU.
