Azerbaijan's Central Electoral Commission has refused to register Soviet screenwriter, dramatist and producer Rustam Ibragimbekov as a presidential candidate, 1news.az reports on Tuesday.
The decision was based on the fact that Ibragimbekov has Russian citizenship as well Azerbaijani and that he has been living in Azerbaijan with large intervals in between.
Ibragimbekov was expected to be the candidate supported by the majority of opposition groups, likely to question Ilham Aliyev's leadership in the country.
