Experts say G20 format is too narrow

On the verge of the coming G20 summit in St. Petersburg Vestnik Kavkaza discussed the format of the international cooperation with experts. They all stress that the G20 format has become too narrow and does not correspond to the modern multi-polar world.

The Director of the Institute of Orienatl Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Vitaly Naumkin, believes that there are a lot of powerful countries that are not represented in the G20 group. According to him, some day the bloc should be enlarged.

His approach is shared by the Director of the Transformation of the Political Systems Centre of the Lomonosov Moscow State University, Vasily Kuznetsov. According to him, many new centres of power energed during the last twenty years. These forces are not represented in the G20 group, he says.

The head of the Centre for Political Situation, Sergey Mikheyev, both the G20 and the G8 groups are nothing but ineffective elite clubs. "I believe nothing is being settled during these summits. The only actual centre of power in the world is the United States with its allies. That's who makes all the decisions," he says.
